Esso is a charming village of about 1500 residents nestled in the Central Mt. Range and inside of the Bystrinsky Nature Park, the largest of the Volcanoes of Kamchatka’s Nature Parks.  The park is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Volcanoes of Kamchatka.”  This quiet village’s spectacular setting and unique population of Russians and Kamchatka aboriginal people welcomes winter visitors to cozy accommodations, warmed by natural geothermal heat.  The first part of your adventure will be riding the public bus 650 km north from Yelizovo to this little village.  Your guide will escort you to your family hotel, and you may soothe weary travel muscles by soaking in the local hot springs pool.  Using snowshoes or XCountry skis if you bring your own, take day trips to above the village where participants can see how the village is located in an extinct volcanic crater.  Visit the Bystrinsky District Ethnographic Museum, with its fine collections of Kamchatka aboriginal material, beautifully displayed.  By snowshoe with snow mobile or dog team support travel 12 km to a ranger station where you may spend 1 night in the taiga, sleeping in a reindeer fur-lined yurt.  Return by the public bus to Yelizovo and spend your final 2 days snowshoeing or XCountry skiing in the area.
