Hike Bakening Volcano, Avachinsky Lakes &
Timonovsky Hot Springs

Hike Bakening Volcano, Avachinsky Lakes, and Timonovsky Hot Springs
Groups 2-8 people

This 115-km route takes you up into the alpine tundra crossing at the highest point 1400 m into the Central Kamchatka Mountain Range through a variety of terrain including birch forests, fording rivers and streams, hiking alongside alpine lakes. Camp by bubbling springs and crystal clear lakes. Hike over mountain passes to Medvejy and Verhnye Avachinsky Lakes as well as looking out to a huge bowl of mountains and extinct Bakhening Volcano. At both Medvejy Lake and Verhnye Avachinsky Lake there is good trout fishing. After the lakes climb up the Timonovsky Pass and drop down into the Timonovsky River valley. This is a trip for experienced backcountry hikers who can carry a backpack with their camping gear and their food.


Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival on Kamchatka, airport greeting and transfer to bed and breakfast in Yelizovo just 15 minutes from the airport. Final preparation and acclimatization to Kamchatka after your flights. Equipment and clothing check last minute purchases.

Day 2 Early morning departure to the trailhead, 208 km from Yelizovo on the road to Milkovo in Kamchatka’s Central Valley. First day’s hike is about 12 km to a good camping spot along the Pravaya Kamchatka River.

Day 3 Hike about 10 km over Maisky Pass (elevation 1400 m) and down to Medvijy Lake.

Day 4 Keep your camp at the Lake and relax, fish for trout if you wish, hike in the scenic area of the Lake.

Day 5 Hike in the Lake area.

Day 6 Ascent of Bakhening Volcano

Day 7 Hike to Avachinsky Lake about 15 km

Day 8 Hike in area of the Lake.

Day 9 Hike to Timonovsky Hot Springs about 10 km.

Day 10 Rest at the hot springs.

Day 11 Hike 18 km to Seritsen River and overnight.

Day 12 Hike 18 km to Sredniy Avacha River where road conditions permitting, your vehicle will wait for you to return to the city. Overnight in Yelizovo.

Day 13 Rest and take a city tour. Visit the galleries and shops in Yelizovo and Petropavlovsk.

Day 14 Departure day.
